There's a new crew grazing at Hildene Farm in Manchester, and they're not your average cows.
Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home recently welcomed a small group of Randall cattle - a rare American landrace breed with deep New England roots and a conservation story worth paying attention to. The cattle traveled up from Delaware last year, and this spring marks a quiet milestone: they've made it through their first Vermont winter in good health.

We stopped by the farm to see them settling in, and came away with photos of a few moments that didn't make it into the team's write-up - early morning light on the pasture, a closer look at the breed's signature black-and-white markings, and the easy routine that's taken shape between the cattle and the farm crew.

For the full story - how these animals ended up in Manchester, what makes the breed so unusual, and why Co-Farm Director Kim Pinsonneault and her team are thinking about long-term preservation - the Hildene team has put together a great piece on their blog.
