So far, we've explored the Northern Vermont Ski Areas and the Central Vermont Ski Areas. Now, in the finale of our 3-part series to help you plan a great Vermont ski vacation, here are the ski resorts of Southern Vermont!
Stratton Mountain, southern Vermont’s highest peak, offers over 600 acres of terrain with top ranked terrain parks, a slopeside Village, Sports Center, Spa, and a full slate of winter events & activities. There's always something happening at Stratton Mountain. Winter brings parties and races, snowshoe hikes, snowmobile tours, snowtubing, fireworks, Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer, the new 24 Hours of Stratton, plus snowboard and freestyle events, boardercross camps and so much more. First-time visitors - ask about Stratton's daily FREE on-the-hill guided tours for intermediate & advanced skiers and riders!
Need a place to stay while enjoying your time on the slopes? Stratton has something for everyone, from bargain lodging to luxurious condominiums. If you'd prefer to stay off-resort, here are a couple great options near Stratton:
Red Fox Inn (866-2REDFOX): Centrally located to three ski areas (Stratton, Bromley, and Magic), the Red Fox Inn offers ten cozy guest rooms, a restaurant, and Traditional Irish pub with live music of all kinds. The Inn is a great place to "unplug" as their rooms come without televisions or wireless internet. These are offered, however, in the main building. Mention VERMONT.COM when you ask about their special mid-week offers!
Cold Moon Farm Bed & Breakfast (802-297-3258): Located just three miles from Stratton Mountain Resort, the Cold Moon Farm is a unique sustainable boutique destination resort featuring a luxurious Bed & Breakfast with five beautiful guest suites, a small working farm, and a large outdoor event venue. They have Cross Country & Hiking Trails, an 8-person Hottub, Snowshoes & Cross Country Ski rentals, Culinary Classes, and more!
Bromley is known as Vermont's Sun Mountain for its warm southern exposure and is located in southern Vermont, just 6 miles from Manchester Center, home to great shopping at the popular Manchester Designer Outlets. The Ski & Snowboard School at Bromley was voted #3 in the East by Ski magazine for Kid Friendly Activities in 2015. Private lessons and seasonal programs are available, including Daycare w/ skiing, and lessons for people with disabilities & their families at the Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center, providing the opportunity for all to enjoy outdoor sports, regardless of their mental or physical disability.
Slopeside accomodations at Bromley Village are the perfect complement to a Bromley ski vacation, with ski in/ski out convenience, or the Village Shuttle Service to the Bromley Base Lodge, but if staying on the mountain isn't for you, consider staying in nearby Manchester, VT.
Manchester View (800-548-4141): A 36-room fine lodging property combining the best of a classic Vermont country inn, motel or even a small hotel, with large rooms & suites, amenities & beautiful views, and a very convenient location. This Three-Diamond, AAA lodge offers working in-room fireplaces, rejuvenating in-room massage, and for special occasions, guests can order baskets filled with Vermont goodies, flowers from the local florist, and more!
Magic Mountain is one of the last truly independent ski areas in Vermont, where classic 1960s-era trails wind down the mountain, and a convenient, centralized lift system and lodge makes it easy to meet up. The Snowsports Learning Center at Magic offers a full range of programs for the beginner to the aspiring expert, and young skiers and boarders will enjoy time on the snow with the Center's children's programs. A relaxed vibe and strong community spirit make Magic one of Vermont's last best kept secrets, with uncrowded slopes and fresh tracks that often last days after a storm. After having fun on the mountain, enjoy a family dinner at the Black Line Tavern where you'll find a great local menu, music, and drinks in a classic Vermont lodge setting.
If you're looking for a place to stay in the area, there are many options! Here is some information about one of our favorite places to stay near Magic:
Landgrove Inn (800-669-8466): An historic country inn located just 9 miles from Magic, offering 18 uniquely decorated rooms in varying configurations to suit every kind of getaway, from a romantic interlude to a fun and festive family vacation. All reservations include a full country breakfast, and in the evening you can enjoy a candlelit meal in the restaurant (a favorite place for locals). Please mention VERMONT.COM when you ask about their specials!
103 trails, 20 lifts, and 588 acres make Mount Snow one of the East's premier ski resorts. Mount Snow is also known as the most accessible Green Mountain getaway from many southern metropolitan areas, located on Vermont's scenic Route 100 just 29 miles from I-91, 2.5 hours from Boston and 4 hours from New York City. While at Mount Snow, don't forget to checkout Carintha, the only all-park mountain face in New England, boasting 8 full park areas loaded with rails, jumps and pipes, nearly five miles of trails, tree-skiing zone, all-natural terrain area, mini-pipe and Mount Snow's monster superpipe. And if you need a little help before hitting the slopes on your own, the Mount Snow Ski and Snowboard School offers group and private lessons for all ages, as well as adaptive lessons for all ages and disabilities.
Mount Snow offers several lodging options both on and off the mountain, from the Grand Summit Resort Hotel, to the Snow Lake Lodge, to the Mount Snow condominium units, but if you're looking for something else, here's another property in the area you might consider:
Austrian Haus Lodge (800-487-3910): Located just 3 miles south of Mount Snow on a hill overlooking scenic Route 100, the Austrian Haus brings country charm and personal service together in a beautiful setting. The Lodge offers continental breakfast, indoor heated pool, sauna, gameroom, BYOB Lounge w/ fireplace, and WiFi service.
