Where To Stay

Dog Friendly Manchester

By Linda CassellaJun. 16, 2016

Like any pet lover, your world revolves around your furry friend and you can't imagine going anywhere without him or her,  even if that means not going on vacation.  Luckily, more and more hotels and motels are becoming pet friendly, so you no longer have to leave Fido at home.

If you are planning a vacation to the Manchester, Vermont area, there are several pet-friendly lodging options from which to choose.

dogsThe Wilburton Inn, nestled in the heart of the Southern Green Mountains, loves dogs. They have 10 pet-friendly bed and breakfast guest rooms as well as 8 large homes that range from a two bedroom cottage to a 15 bedroom private mansion that sleeps 34 guests.  Pets are allowed in every house except the Wilburton Mansion.  Dog fees are $40/night per pet in inn rooms and $125/length of stay per pet in the homes. They do show a little favoritism as Cavalier King Charles Spaniels always stay free! Wagatha's, a local dog biscuit company, has a bag of maple doggie biscuits for your friend upon arrival.

Make sure to join them each year on the last weekend in October for their Howl’oween Doggie dog5Slumber Party.  There are no pet fees for the entire weekend, no matter the breed. If your dog is 25 lbs. or under they are welcome to strut down the dog walk at the annual Canine Costume Ball.  Local businesses give out prizes for the best costumes.

TaconicporchThe new Taconic, a Kimpton Hotel, would be more than happy to pamper your dog in style.  Your are invited to bring your furry, scaly, or feathered friend, no matter what the size, weight, or breed, at no extra charge. There is even no limit on how many pets you can bring along.  If they fit through the door, they are more than welcome to stay.  Taconic makes it easy for you and your pet with a no fuss check-in and your pet is even greeted by name.  They have all the goodies at hand to make sure your pet is pampered during your entire stay.  There will be a plush bed for sleeping as well as food, water bowls, and mats.  Not sure what to do with your pet during your stay? Ask the concierge  for a list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks, groomers, and pet boutiques.

manchester3The Manchester View welcomes you and your dog as long as Fido is 20 lbs. and under. Accommodation in select rooms and suites with prior approval.  When you get to your room, you will find a bowl, treats for your dog, and courtesy bags. Need an extra towel to wipe off wet paws?  Just ask and the front desk will be more than happy to give you an extra one.

willowThe Inn at Willow Pond, originally a dairy farm back in the 1770s, has views of the beautiful Green Mountains and allows you to bring your friendly pet for an additional $20 per night.  Feel free to take your dog on a walk and explore the scenic 20 acres that surround the inn.

While in Manchester,  visit the 88-acre Dana L. Thompson Memorial Park (Manchester Parks and Recreation Department) which includes an extensive dog park with plenty of space for your dog to run and play with "friends." Future plans call for an agility course as well as a covered shelter.  In fact, Saturday, June 18 is set aside for a Dog Show to raise funds for the park. There will be prizes and awards for best trick, most handsome dog, cutest puppy and much more. Mutts to pedigrees, every dog is welcome.

If you and your four-legged friend are looking for a little more adventure, you might want to head to the Equinox Preservation Trust lands that are accessed from The Equinox  in Manchester Village.  These 914 acres of forest land on the eastern slopes of Mount Equinox include over 11 miles of marked and maintained trails. Enjoy this little piece of Vermont's Green Mountains and see what makes this state an outdoor paradise. For an even greater challenge, hike the Lye Brook Falls Trail near Manchester. The payoff is the sight of the 125-foot cascading Lye Brook Falls!

The Ravens Den Steakhouse and Gringo Jack's Southwestern Bar & Grill  are two area restaurants that allow you to bring your dog  with you while enjoying a meal on the patio. Sam's Wood Fire Pizza is also dog friendly. Stop in for a slice of pizza and you and your furry friend  can enjoy outside seating or come in, as long as Fido is on a leash.

Northshire Bookstore, a must for anyone visiting Manchester, loves dogs (on leashes, of course) and they even have biscuits to welcome petsyour friend.  Forgot food or looking for something special for your dog?  Pet Etc. of Vermont is a full service pet shop offering everything from collars and toys to high quality dog food.  You can even bring Fido in to pick out his own toy.  Also be sure to check out The Orvis Flagship Store. They have everything from doggie apparel to dog beds and crates, plus a nice selection of clothing and fly fishing equipment for the humans in your group.

Most of the Manchester Designer Outlets  allow pets in their stores.  Please check before you bring your dog into one of the stores.

October 21, 2021 Most of northern Vermont is past peak with little color to display, though there may be pockets of color here and there.
