Exposed Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
June 22 - October 19, 2024
Opening Reception Saturday, June 22, 2024, 4-7pm

Stowe, Vermont - Exposed is The Current’s 33rd annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, bringing public art to the town of Stowe. Sculptures are sited on both public and private land throughout the village and at The Current. This year celebrates artists of both national renown and those with emergent regional careers, providing a diverse collection of perspectives for broad inspiration. Art can be a meaning- or change-maker, a cultivator of conversation, or a way to participate in and interpret the world. At its best, art connects us to where we are in time or place, whether physical or cerebral, political or personal. It connects us with the people and the world around us, asking questions, and encouraging empathy and understanding.

Artists: Chakaia Booker, Christopher Curtis, Clark Derbes, Woody De Othello, Justin Kenney, John Matusz, Oren Pinhassi, Don Porcaro, Jonathan Prince, Jackson Tupper, Hank Willis Thomas.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and contemplate the work throughout the Summer and Fall seasons. Booker’s use of recycled rubber tires invites the viewer to consider positive social and societal change coming through collective effort. Pinhassi’s installations mimic familiar objects, seeking to render visible the way that humankind builds the world in its own image. Prince’s sculpture reveals the tension between precision and imperfection, mirroring the dualities inherent in life. Porcaro’s totemic practice involves the layering of intricately carved stones to create forms at the intersection of figuration and architecture. Thomas’ benches are in constant dialogue with the concept of truth.

Vermont sculptors are also celebrated in the exhibition. Tupper’s Lucky Strike celebrates a fleeting moment. Derbes’ totem-like structures achieve a variety of complex geometric visual systems, planes, patterns, and patinas. Matusz’s abstract, welded steel forms command attention. Curtis’ work is fueled by close observation of the natural world and stars. Kenney’s piece invites an interplay of light and shadow across intersecting planes at the water’s edge.

Exposed is curated by Rachel Moore. For more information on these exhibitions, related events, and travel inquiries, contact Kelly Holt: Gallery Manager, [email protected] |+1 802 253 8358.
