Steal Fire presents NO EXIT

by Jean Paul Sartre

Adapted from the French by Paul Bowles

at the Off Center for Dramatic Arts in Burlington, VT.
July 23 - Aug 2

Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideousroom in Hell. There are no mirrors, the electric lights can never be turned off, and there is no exit.

The irony of this Hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of Hell. Famously, Hell is other people.

"In Camera" was the original translation of the French title "Huis Clos", for what we've come to know as "No Exit". Steal Fire will deliver a "No Exit" that takes the original title translation "In Camera" literally. This production integrates the use of camera, projection, and live theatre, uniquely mixing mediums to deliver a cutting edge performance you won't soon forget.

Select performances include a post-show talk back with Dr. Patrick Standen, Instructor of Philosophy at Saint Michael's College, offering an opportunity for audience conversation surrounding French Existentialism and the philosophical ideas behind Sartre's theatrical works.
