While the majority of Vermont is still green, there are a few pockets of color in some areas. It won't be long before we start to see a wonderful display of foliage color in the Green Mountains.
Beyond leaf peeping, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Vermont’s mountains, meadows and villages during the fall. From mid-September through late October, we will become surrounded by a spectacular show of colors and Vermont.com will provide you with updates on this page as the foliage changes. Keep checking back here as we continue to gather information from our "Leaf Squad" to report foliage conditions throughout the state!

This "Current Conditions" map provides an approximate view of the current foliage color in Vermont.
Foliage color generally starts to change in the higher, cooler areas of the Green Mountains, spreading down into the Lake Champlain Valley and Connecticut River Valley, and moving from north to south across the state. The exact timing of the color change varies from year to year.

"I started to see tiny hints of color around the beginning of August, and the colors are really only just beginning to show. I enjoy driving along the back roads through the towns of Londonderry, Landgrove, Peru, and Manchester, to find the occasional pop of early color among the green leaves. The weather is starting to get cooler at night and early morning (50's), but still very warm during the day (70s-80s). I'm looking forward to watching the color progression!"

Helpful Tip: Plan Ahead!
Foliage season is a very popular time to visit Vermont, so if you want to stay in a particular place on a particular weekend, call in advance to make sure rooms are available. Having your lodging plans made in advance will avoid unnecessary stress and allow you to enjoy your foliage season odyssey. Also, it is a good idea to make dining reservations as early as possible in the day or even the night before.
