Salisbury is a town in Addison County, of the Middlebury-Vergennes region and is home to Lake Dunmore.
The town may have been named for Salisbury, Connecticut, where most of the grantees were from, or it may have been named for James Cecil, the sixth Earl of Salisbury.
Most of the grantees sold their rights to friends and neighbors instead of settling in the town. The best known was Anne Story, a valued aide and advisor to the colonists during the Revolution. She became known as "The Mother of The Green Mountain Boys," and there is a monument in Ann's memory, at the site of her original cabin in Salisbury, Vermont.
