Vermont.com Guide to

Goshen

We Are
Vermont.

Goshen is a town in Addison County, of the Middlebury-Vergennes region, founded in February 1792. Not to be confused with a village of the same name in the town of Newbury, this town was probably named for Goshen in Litchfield County, Connecticut, where many of the grantees originated.

In Vermont, place names like Bethel, Canaan and Goshen were chosen because they carried connotations of rich, fertile lands, and because it was hoped they would attract settlers.
