Barton Vermont is located on I-91 in Orleans County, north of St Johnsbury, in the beautiful and scenic "Northeast Kingdom" of Vermont, an area that National Geographic selected as part of their geotourism program for sustainable destinations. The town includes two incorporated villages, Barton and Orleans.

Some notable people from Barton include: Revolutionary War Officer & founder of Barton, Colonel William Barton; 69th Governor of Vermont, Lee E. Emerson; 46th Governor of Vermont, Josiah Grout; engineer & creator of both the Cadillac and Lincoln automobile brands, Henry M. Leland; and professional baseball player for the New York Giants, Henry Alexander Stafford.
