Andover is a town in Windsor County, of the "Southern Windsor County" region.
The town was originally twice its current size, but because a ridge of highlands (named Terrible Mountain) made it virtually impossible to get from one side of the town to the other, the western portion was made into the separate town of Weston in 1799.
Some notable people in the area include: Alvin Adams, founder of one of the first carrier companies for express shipments by rail in the US; Austin Adams, lawyer & justice of the Iowa Supreme Court; and Claudio Arrau, classical pianist.
