The 2026-27 KCP Presents Performing Arts Series begins in St. Johnsbury, on Saturday, October 3rd, with powerhouse live music from North Mississippi Allstars. Blending blues, rock, and Southern soul, these homegrown Hill Country favorites will take the Fuller Hall stage at 7pm.
Inspired by musical elders in their North Mississippi community, brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson started North Mississippi Allstars (NMA) in 1996. The loose collective of musicians was inspired in particular by local legends RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrogh, Otha Turner, Fred McDowell, and Memphis pianist and producer Jim Dickinson, aka Luther and Cody’s father.
Luther’s first national tour was with RL Burnside in 1997, selling out shows in the US and Canada. “Kenny Brown hired me to tour with RL and Cedric [Burnside] and showed me the ropes. That experience blew my mind. Cody and I have been on the road ever since.”
Since NMA began touring in 1998, their lineup has included Cedric, Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Chris Chew, Berry Oakley Jr, Oteil Burbridge, Joey Williams of the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Ray Ray Hollowman, guitar player for Eminem and Ne-YO.
Since their debut album in 2000, NMA have shared stages with luminaries including Phil Lesh, Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, John Hiatt, the Allman Brothers, the Black Crowes, Buddy Guy, Snoop Dogg, and Jon Spencer. They’ve earned multiple Grammy nominations for their experimental albums of Modern Mississippi Music.
Rolling Stone dubbed the band, “a force of nature,” and NPR called them “modern day torchbearers for the distinct, funky, Hill Country blues associated with their native state.” Undoubtedly one of Mississippi’s most recognized rock bands, NMA could also be described as a gritty greasy jam band playing barnyard psychedelia in a backwoods juke joint.
