Did you know Alfred Hitchcock filmed The Trouble with Harry in Vermont in 1954 — then returned the following year for its world premiere in Barre, with proceeds benefiting New England flood relief?
Seventy-plus years later, Hollywood, VT is revisiting the story through the people and voices of Vermont today. On Friday, October 23 at 7 p.m., the Latchis Theatre hosts a one-night-only, largely unrehearsed and unrecorded live screenplay reading featuring Tom Bodett (Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!), Myra Flynn (singer-songwriter, journalist, Homegoings), Jeanine B. Frost (AFI alum, Vermont writer/director/actor), Chris Dorman (musician, early childhood educator, and creator and star of Vermont PBS’s Mister Chris and Friends), Willy Appelman (actor, comedian and writer; NBC’s Bring the Funny, Weston Theater Company’s Our Town), Candice Taylor-Diallo (multidisciplinary artist, physician and founder of Creative Chromatics), and Howard Weiss-Tisman (Vermont Public’s Southern Vermont reporter).
A strange little Vermont story about a corpse, a community, and one very inconvenient body, The Trouble with Harry is a quirky Hitchcock gem sometimes called his “lost masterpiece.” Discover it — or rediscover it — live on stage.
