The KCP Presents Performing Arts Series welcomes the Tallis Scholars to the Highland Center for the Arts, in Greensboro, on December 12th, at 7:00. The renowned ensemble has been bringing sacred Renaissance music to modern audiences for more than 50 years, performing over 2500 concerts worldwide.

Three-time Grammy nominees, the Tallis Scholars were founded in 1973 by Artistic Director Peter Phillips. Through critically acclaimed recordings and concert performances at prestigious international venues, they have established themselves as the leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music throughout the world. Over five decades, Phillips and the ensemble have created a resonant purity and pristine clarity of sound that showcases the Renaissance repertoire gloriously, elevating every detail of the musical lines for a sonic production utterly unique to the Tallis Scholars.
In the spirit of the holidays, the Greensboro performance will explore winter intonations. The theme behind this seasonal program is the Virgin Mary, whether celebrating her own divinity (in the Votive Mass written by Byrd), or in the context of the birth of Christ (in Tallis’s epic Missa Puer natus). The choice of music is taken exclusively from the English repertoire, featuring not only Renaissance masterpieces but also compositions by Britten and Matthew Martin.
