Hubbardton is a town in Rutland County, of the Rutland-Killington region.
Hubbardton was named for a man who was listed among the grantees as the Honorable Thomas Hubbard, Esquire. Almost nothing is known about Hubbard except that he was reputed to have been a prosperous Boston merchant, and was listed as a grantee in six other towns.
One of the most successful rear guard actions in American history, the Battle of Hubbardton was the only Revolutionary War battle fought entirely in Vermont.
