Find yourself at home in this peaceful suite! Located in a quiet neighborhood a mile from downtown, this 1 bedroom private 2nd floor apartment feels at once both cozy and spacious, and is ideal for longer stays. Climb the stairs just inside your own entrance to find a large open concept living area and kitchen with vaulted ceilings, full of sunlight. The secluded bedroom under the eaves, designed with tranquility and your comfort in mind, offers a restful getaway.
You’ll enter through your private door and walk upstairs to an open, bright, airy space with high ceilings and lots of window light. Lovingly furnished with vintage finds and original art, this combo living/ dining/cooking area is a great room to hang out in. Two cozy Old Hickory upholstered chairs and glam leopard print ottomans give you a relaxing place to put up your feet and read a book from my collection, work on your laptop with the fast reliable Fidium wifi, or watch some movies on the Roku TV, which lets you sign into any of your own accounts, from Netflix to Disney and much more.
The butcher block bistro table in a cozy corner seats two for meals. The kitchen is basic and very functional with a 4-burner electric stove, oven, full size fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee pot, tea kettle, French press, toaster, all manner of pots and pans for cooking and baking, new utensils, many spices, oils, condiments and most everything you might need. I provide coffee, decaf and tea. I'll also stock your kitchen with creamer, breakfast items and snacks!
The small bathroom is colorful (the entire apartment is newly painted!) and has a shower, exhaust fan and casement window for fresh air. Soft towels, a hairdryer, magnifying makeup mirror and little touches like storage boxes for your things are provided, as well as bar soap, body wash, moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner. Don't worry if you forgot your toothbrush - I keep extras on hand!
The peaceful bedroom with a locking door off the living area, is a green oasis with a vintage bamboo themed wallpaper accent wall. The full (double) sized bed has a supremely comfortable Kingsdown Emerald Crown Ultra luxury pillow top mattress and is an extra long length (I'm 6'1" tall and my feet don't reach the foot board!!). A deep blue velvet sofa is a soothing place to take a nap, or sit to unpack your bags, and the closet and dresser have plenty of room for your things. The skylight has light blocking curtains to help you sleep - or open them, and crank open the screened skylight, for a magical experience on a summer night when the moon is full! There are choices of firmness for pillows, extra blankets, and you can adjust your heat and cooling settings. The bedroom can get warm in summer, so you’ll want the provided room fans. The built-in AC is in the living area and cools that room well, and there’s an overhead fan there, too. In the Vermont winter, the dual propane and electric heat systems have you covered.
This cozy oasis is located just off I-91, Exit 2, in a quiet residential neighborhood. You can walk in 3 minutes to the famous Vermont Country Deli, and just beyond, to Living Memorial Park and the summer Farmer’s Market! Downtown Brattleboro with its many interesting, quirky shops, galleries and restaurants is one mile away, and this is a great location to partake in activities at the Latchis Theater, the Vermont Jazz Center, New England Center for Circus Arts, The Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, as well as the Marlboro Music Festival, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Newfane Heritage Festival and so much more.
If you are a traveling nurse or medical professional, we are 1.7 miles from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and 2.2 miles from The Brattleboro Retreat. We are 20.6 miles from Cheshire Medical in Keene, NH and 20.7 miles to Baystate Medical in Greenfield, MA. I designed the apartment with your needs in mind, for a comfortable mid term stay - offering you far more amenities and comfort than the traditional vacation room.
Please note that reservations up to 90 days are now available for professionals coming here for work assignments, formal education or professional training. Your current work and/or landlord references, and signing a simple Vermont legal rental agreement are required for stays longer than 29 consecutive days. Just send me a booking inquiry and mention the reason for your work trip - I'd love to accommodate you!
We are also within 1.5 hours of many downhill ski areas including Mount Snow and Stratton, and cross country skiing is widely available. We are less than one mile from the world famous Harris Hill Ski Jump event every February!
Oh - and if you like vintage clothing, don't forget to visit my shop, Morning Glorious, just downstairs! For 24 years I have been curating an ever changing selection of fun maximalist garments from the 1940s to the 1990s. My studio is open to visitors most Saturdays 12-5 PM and other days by chance or by appointment.
You have full access to your upstairs apartment and will enjoy total privacy during your stay. You are welcome to enjoy the outdoor spaces: the flower garden at the end of the driveway, seating near your door, and the large open yard of wild flowers behind the building. In summer I mow a "maze path" which is fun to walk!
Laundry Access: Important - note that the washer and dryer on premises are inside my shop and are available for my mid term or long term guests!! They are NOT inside the apartment, and are not available with short stays of under 7 days, thank you for understanding! Guests staying 7 days or longer can request the key to my laundry center located downstairs within my vintage clothing shop, and simply agree to some "house rules," a shared schedule or limited hours, since I need to use the laundry machines daily for my work with the clothing. For long term guests, I provide all detergent and cleaning supplies and am happy to wash, dry and fold your towels and sheets during your stay. An iron and table top ironing board are available on request. For my under-7 days guests needing to wash personal clothing, there's a public laundromat located conveniently 2 miles away and it's open 7 days a week.
There are stairs to climb to reach the guest suite.
The comfy luxury pillow top bed is a double (full) size, extra long length. The couch is good for naps, but is not a sleeper sofa.
The bathroom is off the kitchen (not directly off the bedroom, you walk through the open living room to reach it).
There is no dishwasher, and no sink garbage disposal.
The AC is a wall mounted unit, effective, but it is not central AC.
Sorry, no pets!
Please park in the marked reserved parking spot for you. If you happen to be here during a snow storm, you will be asked to move your car briefly when we get plowed, then you can put it right back.
It's very quiet here for being in town, yet from your kitchen window you may hear occasional normal neighborhood sounds: a truck, people walking by talking, a dog barking and so forth. Your bedroom is the quietest room on this property.
Because this is Vermont, you may see mice, squirrels, deer, bats, foxes, skunks, raccoons, bears, beetles, ants, wasps, bees or encounter ticks in tall grassy areas and woods. Everyone visiting New England in spring, summer and fall should consider wearing tick repellent when outside. I proactively treat our building for mice and wasps. Help to prevent these pests by not leaving food or sugary drinks open, either indoors or outdoors. Please use the three designated bins in your suite for disposal of 1) trash - things like used tissues and Styrofoam, 2) recycling - rinsed plastic, glass and metal containers, together with clean cardboard and paper, and 3) compost, your food scraps such as egg shells, leftovers, coffee grounds, etc. go in this bucket. Thanks!
If you smoke outside, please don't bring cigarette butts in, just be sure they are extinguished and toss them in the outdoor trash bins across the driveway. Thanks!
