The Vermont State Auditor is one of five constitutional officers in Vermont, elected statewide every two years. The Office provides an independent and objective assessment of Vermont's governmental operations.

There are three major types of audits for which the office is responsible – performance audits, the State’s financial statement audit (CAFR), and the State’s single audit (which looks at the usage of federal funds by the state). All of these audits focus on the accountability of the State to its citizens, from both a financial and service delivery perspective.

Thomas M. Salmon is the current Vermont State Auditor.
