In early 2015, the Be Brave for Life Foundation started as a vision from 15 year old Riley Callen's hospital bed. Through her own experiences with benign brain tumors, she developed a passion for raising awareness and supporting research.

The organization just celebrated its first full calendar year, 2016, as a non-profit organization. Be Brave is already making a significant impact by helping to fund cutting edge brain tumor research. Remarkably, since the founding in July 2015, they have raised $275,000 and continue to support two remarkable research initiatives at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. When Dr. Edward Smith, Director of Pediatric Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at Boston Children’s Hospital heard of this achievement he said, “This is a real testament to both [founder] Riley’s tenacity, the grassroots organization, and how much people care about these conditions and the kids [like Riley] who are being affected by them.” In late 2017, they will offer one year micro-grant(s) of up to $20,000 for research pilot projects, bridge funding, or community outreach and hospital based programs.

They are also excited about their new bravery initiative where they are honoring everyday heroes, as they create a community around the empowering trait of bravery.
